Leapster Explorer
The Leapster Explorer is an educational hand-held games console that’s supposedly an extraordinary new learning experience. While it’s certainly different, the Leapster Explorer is in itself just a games console, but the question is, is it really worth it?
Upon first impressions, the Leapster Explorer will probably remind you of the PlayStation PSP. It’s got a similar layout, sits nicely in the hand, and unlike the PSP, it comes with its own stylus. This is where the similarities end, because LeapFrog has produced a handheld games console that’s aimed squarely at educational gaming.
Kids love the Leapster, but parents might find it a bit more intimidating as like other consoles, one has to purchase games and also accessories. Games are priced at around $25 each, but the advantage is that parents gain the peace of mind in knowing that the Leapster Explorer’s games are educational and they’re actually beneficial to your child.
Looking at the Leapster Explorer, it’s a great games console for under $100, but if you want your child to get any degree of enjoyment, you should take a look at purchasing a few additional games, a carrying case and also a recharging station. This all increases the price of the unit, but it is well worth it, as with even a few games, you child will have hours of fun.
From a parents perspective the Leaspter Explorer has a number of benefits. The first is it is educational, secondly – it can be plugged into a PC / Mac so that you can monitor what your child is learning, and finally – it’s the perfect tool to keep your child busy on a long road trip or trip to school.
While it might have an expensive price tag, the games which can be purchased extra are great value for money as they include titles such as Toy Story 3, The Penguins of Madagascar and even more. This console is a great investment, as unlike other games – it’ll pay for itself in the way that it benefits your child.

Cuponk
Cuponk™ (not Kuponc or Kuponc) is a new action game from Hasbro. By action, we mean it’s a game that’s going to have just everyone in your household trying to invent their own way to play this re-imagination of a cup-in-ball game. Essentially, Cuponk is shaped like a large cup and the aim of the game is to get the ball into the cup.
It plays like basketball in that the idea is to throw a small Ping Pong like ball into the cup and if you succeed, all hell breaks loose with LED’s flashing and SFX going off. However, while that’s nothing special, the real innovation with Cuponk is the way that Hasbro have invented a game that literally makes your kids invent their own game by thinking up strategies to score cool moves and ways to make things more interesting.
Cuponk™ ships with a deck of cards that suggest all sorts of cool ways to get the ball into that cup, and it’s already a hit with thousands of kids. The price of the set is pretty inexpensive, and if your kids love getting active, then Cuponk is well worth it. It’s a toy that’s best suited for indoors play, but it can be used just about anywhere. The only drawback to Cuponk is that without practice, it can be difficult to get shots into the cup, but after all – that’s what the game is all about, right?

From rolling on his back to standing on his head, the Imaginext™ Bigfoot the Monster is literally barrels of fun. Kids can tickle him and even play ball with him! Standing 12.3 inches tall, Bigfoot is brimming with life, and this little monster will most certainly give your little monster hours of fun. From hanging upside-down (really) to rolling around the floor and asking for food, the Bigfoot Monster will make all sorts of noises which are bound to annoy and delight just about everyone he comes in contact with.
Fisher-Price are on to a winner with Bigfoot. It’s clear that this guy really is the champion in more ways than one, as this activity toy is creative, adventurous and perfect for bold little boys and even girls. While the toy might sound a trifle expensive at just under $100, it comes complete with everything your child needs to start having fun straight away. Thankfully, the batteries are included and surprisingly, they’re rechargeable too! All in all, Bigfoot the Monster is a fantastic toy for both big kids and small.

Calico Critters Luxury Townhouse
This spacious four-roomed townhome is a perfect gift for your little girl. Suited to kids aged between four and six years, the Calico Critters Luxury Townhouse offers everything you’re little darling would expect. The home is well decorated and it encourages creativity and imagination in this 12 x 12 x 12 inch habitat that’s filled with plenty of room for the Critters’ and any other friends a little girl might have.
Comparatively speaking, the Calico Critters Luxury Townhouse isn’t the cheapest on the market as unfortunately furniture is not included, however that aside, all the Calico Critters homes are well-built and this plastic-townhouse includes moveable stairs, four rooms and the ability to create an extra floor with a special divider. The home opens in the middle, giving plenty of opportunities for play and creativity.
Generally, this Luxury Townhouse is a great buy for Christmas, but be aware that it doesn’t come with any Critters or even furniture. Those things aside, it’s a well-built townhouse that any four to 6 year old would absolutely die for. The cute décor and design really help to make this townhouse perhaps one of the best doll’s houses out there.

Loopz game (not loopt or loopt game)
Loopz (not Loops or loopt) is the latest game from Mattel, and it’s a product that took the 2010 Toy fair by storm. While it does look rather strange upon first sights, once you power on the unit, you’ll soon realize that this music / memory / reflex game is a whole lot of fun for all of the family.
The concept of the loopz game is simple, the game plays a sequence of sounds or ‘loops’ and flashes lights to indicate where and what you should do. Essentially, it’s a memory game with a twist. After unboxing the Loopz toy, we found that it’s an entrancing and addictive game for all ages.
With a variety of loopz game modes, players can either play vs. the computer or vs. each other. The whole idea is to be a ‘virtual DJ’ playing your ‘loops’ at the right time and place. It sounds complicated, but it really is lots of fun, and perhaps the only drawback is that it can be difficult to play for those under 4 years old due to the fact it does require a degree of coordination.
On the whole, Loopz is one of those games that’ll keep on coming out of the closet and keeping your kids entertained whenever they’re bored. In fact, it’s the type of game that works well for anyone, because it’s not only great fun, it’s also great value for money.

Minotaurus from LEGO
Minotaurus is like Lego and a board game all in one. This rather unique concept offers unlimited possibilities and a great deal of fun for just about everyone. Thanks to the way that Lego has designed this new game, it’s got lots of replay value and unlike many board games; it’ll last for a long time. Kids will have a lot of fun putting the 224 pieces of this game together in order to assume the roles of the four heroes and the Minotaur.
Essentially, Minotaurus is an old-fashioned board game with a Lego twist. The goal is to move your pieces to the center of the maze where there’s a temple, and to avoid the Minotaur who can be controlled by players. Things get complicated however when you realize that other players can build walls and direct the Minotaur to destroy the opposition, so this game has an element of fun, as well as a degree of thinking required in order to reign supreme.
Minotaurus plays fast, and a typical game lasts just 20 minutes, which is perfect for younger kids. It’s not designed to keep you busy all night which means that unlike other board games which tend to get relegated to the closet after a few plays, this one will remain on the top of the pile, due to its replay-ability and the fact that when you’re bored of one layout or rule set, you can innovate and invent your own totally new one. Overall, Minotaurus is a well-priced board game and an absolute bargain.

Monster High Cleo DeNile™ and Deuce Gorgon
The new Monster High dolls are a whole range of products that are trying to cash in on the success of Monster High. The Cleo DeNile and Deuce Gorgon fashion dolls are great for kids over 6 to 7 and while they are fashion dolls, they can be played with. These adorable yet quirky dolls are poseable, they come apart and are also bundled with quite a few extras.
For doll collectors or little kids of 6 years and up, the Monster High dolls really are a must for anyone’s collection. They’re weirdly cute enough to be liked by both boys and girls, and also comparatively well priced. Perhaps the coolest of the bunch, Cleo DeNile and Deuce Gorgon are ready and waiting to be taken home, and these fully poseaeble dolls really do look great. While it has to be said that Deuce does look a bit feminine, it’s not too bad as Cleo really does look fantastic.
In the box, you can expect two doll stands, accessories in the form of a hairbrush, two pets, and also a set of journals for both Cleo and Deuce. The journals are easy to read, but Cleo’s might take a bit of decoding for younger readers. Generally, while they’re well built, the removable arms can to fall loose so as a result they’re not the type of doll to be thrown around. If you’re looking for a doll set that’s a bit out of the ordinary for your child, then the Cleo DeNile and Deuce Gorgon fashion doll set from Mattel are truly weird and wonderful and absolutely fantastic.
Princess & Me
The new Princess & Me dolls from Disney really are gorgeous 12-inch tall beauties that every little girl adores. With a plush-porcelain finish, the Princess & Me dolls are durable and most importantly, they look fantastic. For kids aged between 3 and 8 years, they are perhaps the cutest dolls yet, as the dolls themselves look great, but the little dresses they come with are also superbly designed and absolutely gorgeous.
The great thing about the Princess & Me dolls are that they’ve been designed to be your child’s best friend, so as a result, they’re quite durable, come with relatively tangle-free hair, as well as a special bed for each doll, and also a princess manual, telling your daughter everything she needs to know in order to become a princess.
Normally, Disney products can be a rip-off, but the Disney Princess & Me dolls offer fantastic value for money because of the fact that they really are quite durable and thanks to the 18 inch size, they can be your girl’s best friend. Your only problem might be getting one, as like all good dolls – the demand is fierce.
Sing-a-ma-jigs
Sing-a-ma-jigs are perhaps the most cutely annoying plush toys to come from Mattel, ever! Looking at them, you might not think that such adorable little critters have the potential to wreak havoc whilst at the same time, being a great deal of fun for their operator / puppet master. Indeed, when your child picks one these up, or even you do, there will be giggles in minutes as it starts to vocalize and even sing. With four different dolls and four different ‘tones’ these cute little critters can even sing in tandem.
The Sing-a-ma-jigs really are fantastic innovations, as these little furry animals are amazingly cute and when you press their tummy, they start singing. It’s the type of thing that’s perfect as a bedtime doll, as it’s soft, furry and seems like it could be a great comforter at night. The Sing-a-ma-jigs are much different to other plushy dolls because they sing only on demand, and only when you push their tummy.
For kids 2 years and up, the Sing-a-ma-jigs are perhaps the perfect toy. Adults love them too, because of the fact that once you pick this little angel up, you’re not going to put it down until it either has the whole room laughing, or the opposite! With cute little voices and a fully working mouth, it’s a fantastic little toy that’s already a surefire hit. The only problem you might have is that after buying one for your child, you might just have to buy another one for yourself!
Tomica Hypercity
The Tomica Hypercity Mega Station is yet another rail-set for young kids. Best suited for kids over four, the Mega Station offers fully automated trains that aim to emulate that of a busy station, and it’s up to your child to control them! Perfect for avid train enthusiasts, this little train set is fantastic.
Looking at the Tomica Hypercity Mega Station, it’s actually more than just a train set as it comes with train station, crossing and even cars that need to stop and wait for the train to cross, and at 36 inches by 16 inches – the set is quite big which means it’ll keep your young train controller occupied for hours.
As a first train set, the Tomica Hypercity Mega Station is fantastic. It’s colorful, durable and runs on batteries so it’s really quite safe for youngsters four and up. While kids of 3 might enjoy the train on fully automatic setting, to get the most fun out of this set, you child should be able to control the trains / signals / crossings manually. For under $100, this is a brand new offering from TOMY that’s filled with fun and every little boy’s fantasy!
